Tshilidzini Regional Hospital Redevelopment, Shayandima, near Thohoyandou in the Vhembe District, is a large-scale, multidisciplinary healthcare infrastructure project for the National Department of Health, administered by the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA). It is structured in two principal phases: Phase 1 (road intersection and civil works) and Phase 2 (the main hospital and associated facilities, including the forensic pathology services and mortuary scope).

LEMEG leads the project as Consortium Lead and Architect, alongside SMEC South Africa (structural and civil engineering), MVM Africa (electrical engineering) and DELTA BEC (mechanical, electrical-ICT and MEP engineering). The project is delivered as a BIM Manager-led, model-federated project, with model coordination a standing agenda item at every consortium coordination meeting.

The design concept centres on a multi-level atrium that serves as the heart of the facility, a hospital street connecting the medical units through open corridors and bridges, with natural light filtering through. The accommodation recorded in LEMEG’s portfolio includes ICU/HCU, maternity, medical, mental health, multi-disciplinary (sub-acute), neo-natal, paediatric, surgical and TB/infectious disease clusters, a gateway clinic, reproductive health, ante-natal, baby, chronic care and minor ailments clinics, and staff accommodation (bachelor, one-, two- and three-bedroom units).

LEMEG’s services recorded for the project are pre-contract (project inception and appraisal, concept and design development, technical and procurement documentation) and post-contract (construction-phase technical inspections and quality control).
